Spiti Road Trip

Overview

Spiti Valley is a cold desert mountain valley located high in the Himalayas in the north-eastern part of the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. The name "Spiti" means "The Middle Land", i.e. the land between Tibet and India.Spiti valley is a research and cultural centre for Buddhists. Highlights include Key Monastery and Tabo Monastery, one of the oldest monasteries in the world and a favourite of the Dalai Lama. It was the location of the scenery and cinematography in the Indian films Paap, Highway and Milarepa, a biographical adventure tale about one of Buddhism's most famous Tibetan saints.The Pin Valley of Spiti is home to the few surviving Buchen Lamas of the Nyingmapa sect of Buddhism.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1: Report at Nagpur Railway station & proceed for Ambala. 

 

Day 2: Reach Ambala and proceed for Chandigarh where we stay overnight

 

Day 3: Sightseeing in Chandigarh and leave for Shimla in evening.

 

Day 4: Shimla -Kalpa

Reach Shimla and proceed further to Kalpa. We will drive pass from Theog, Narkanda & will continue our journey on Indo Tibet Highway till Duttnagar. Kalpa Known as the Land of sunrise & Sunset. Overnight in Kalpa.

 

Day 5: Kalpa-Kaza 

This morning after breakfast we will start our journey to Kaza. It takes around 8 hrs enroute we can visit Gue Monastery. 

After visiting Gue Village will drive to Kaza, on arrival check in at hotel. Dinner and overnight stay at hotel.

Day 6: Kaza-Key-Kibber -Hikkim –Komic – Langza-Kaza 

After breakfast proceed for the sightseeing of Ki, Kibber, Hikkim, and Komic & Langza. 

Evening return back to Kaza, overnight at hotel.

Day 7: Kaza-Losar 

This morning after breakfast we will start our journey to Losar. It will take around 4 hrs to reach over there, en-route we will visit small villages of Kaza valley. 

Afternoon will reach Losar & check in at homestay. Then we will visit local family and interact with family know more about their life and culture. 

Dinner and overnight stay at hotel.

Day 8: Losar 

After breakfast will drive to Kunzum Pass.

Day 9:Losar-Dhankar-Tabo 

This morning after breakfast we will start our journey towards Tabo enroute we can visit Dhankar Monastery. 

After visiting this beautiful monastery, will drive to Tabo. 

Dinner& overnight stay at Tabo. 

 

 

Day 10: Tabo-Nako-Sangla 

This morning after breakfast we will start our journey to Sangla. It will takes around 8 hrs enroute we can visit Nako. 

Dinner and overnight stay at hotel. 

 

 

Day 11:Sangla-Chitkul –Sangla 

 

Morning after breakfast drive to Chitkul it will take around 1 hrs to reach over there. 

Overnight in Sangla. 

 

 

Day 12: Sangla – Shimla

Early morning check out from hotel & straight drive to Shimla, will take 08 Hours to reach over there.

 

Day 13:  Shimla

 

Day 14: Board Volvo bus to Delhi. 

 

 

Day 15: Reach Nagpur and dispersal.

  • Srinagar to Leh: Srinagar, Sonmarg, Zozila pass (11,640 ft.), Kargil War memorial at Drass, Drass Valley (Second coldest inhabited region in the world). Kargill, Suru river, Future Buddha statue at Mulbek monastery (7th or 8th century), Namika-La pass (12,198 ft), Fotu-La pass (13,479 ft). Fotu-la is also the highest point of Srinagar Leh highway. Lamayuru Monastery Founded in 11th century, Moon lands, Hangro Loops (Very steep and sharp 18 loops), Nimmu (A Confluence of turquoise colored Indus river with Zanskar river), Magnetic Hill, Gurudwara Patthaar Sahib

(Highest motorable road in the world), Hunder village in Nubra Valley (famous for double humped camels and sand dunes in the mountains), Diskit Monastry, Pangong Tso (One of the largest brackish lakes in Asia,allt.14,270ft), Chang-La Pass (17,590 ft)

  • Leh to Manali: Tanglang-La pass(17,582 ft),Moore Plains: 4730 Meters, Lachalung-La pass: (16,515ft.), Nakee-La pass: (15,547ft.), Gata Loops (13746 ft), Sarchu camp (14074 ft), Baralacha-La pass: (16,040 ft.) ,Jispa (10892 feet), Keylong (10104 feet), Rohtang-La pass (13,050ft.)
